Tolkien mentioned that his vision for Rivendell was heavily inspired by a trip years before to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. I wanted to honor that vision while also making it truly feel like The Last Homely House - warm and comforting rather than grand and austere.
The architectural style and background hearken to Alpine style, and the wood timber construction is intended to reference the shipbuilding skills that Elrond likely learned from his father Earendil. The bridge over the waterfall in the background ties in with the closeup design of the party setting out and the end of their stay.
Available in Large (16x24" / 406x609mm) and Small ( 8x12" / 203x304mm) sizes. Arrange any of our Middle-earth series together, in any size combination, to reveal the hidden rings in the corners of each design.
